Algeria Accuses Israel at UN of Breaching Gaza Truce
Ahmed Attaf told the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York that Israel is trying to divide Somalia, attacking Syria and Lebanon, and failing to honor the Gaza truce. He said Israeli forces have continued to kill Palestinian civilians despite the ceasefire, which has held formally since October 2025.
Attaf reaffirmed Algeria's backing for Palestinian statehood, declaring support for "an independent, fully sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital."
He also condemned Israel's "continued attacks" in Syria and Lebanon, as well as its "efforts to divide Somalia."
Widening his remarks to the global picture, Attaf warned of mounting crises and eroding trust between states. He said force is again taking precedence over consensus.
He called for reform of the UN, arguing that change has become necessary given profound shifts worldwide and the need for a fairer, more representative international system.
On the Gulf, Attaf said Algeria is watching the escalation there with concern. He urged steps to ease tensions and safeguard regional security and stability.
